TELEVISION TRIBUTE TO MARK DEATH OF DAVID BOWIE
WMSE 91.7 FM and MPTV
“In remembrance of the life and music of David Bowie, Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV) will broadcast a special honoring one of the most influential rock and pop stars in the history of music. DAVID BOWIE: FIVE YEARS will air on MPTV 10 on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. on MPTV 10.
“Tom Crawford, Station Manager of WMSE 91.7 FM, will host the pledge broadcast of DAVID BOWIE: FIVE YEARS on MPTV. In the three days following Bowie’s death, WMSE was ranked fourth among radio stations throughout the world for number of Bowie spins.
““As a longtime fan of David Bowie, who I saw from his very first Detroit performance in Fisher Hall in 1972, I was saddened by the news of my cultural icon’s death,” said Bohdan Zachary, General Manager of MPTV. “On the drive from my apartment to the MPTV studio, I was thrilled that WMSE was dedicating its airwaves to a Bowie marathon. It did so just about every day that week. I called Tom Crawford to congratulate him and we quickly discovered our paths as Bowie fans were similar. That’s why I can’t wait for us to celebrate the legend of David Bowie on our special MPTV pledge night tribute.”
“The critically-acclaimed BBC documentary, DAVID BOWIE: FIVE YEARS, follows the musician over key one-year periods in his early career. This intimate documentary features a wealth of unseen footage and charts the star’s continual evolution through various roles, which made him an icon of our times. DAVID BOWIE: FIVE YEARS explores Bowie’s regeneration in Berlin and his numerous critical triumphs, and features interviews with all of his closest collaborators.”
