Entanglement is Cairns’ first full-length LP, joining EPs Cluttered Sky (2018), Current (2016) and Vision Quests (2015) in the band’s catalog. As the solo project of John Larkin (member Gauss, Caley Conway Band and ex member of YLLA, Temple, Calliope), the majority of the album was recorded himself on most instrumentation (vocals/guitar/drums/synth/trumpet/trombone) with additional contributions from other Milwaukee musicians.

Layered and expansive, Entanglement masks its complex time signatures and rhythms with layers of meticulous sound and dynamic swells through every track. In typical Cairns fashion, nearly every song features drastic stylistic changes throughout and no two moments carry the same weight. This release marks significant development in the complexity of Cairns’ sound and Larkin’s songwriting. Its name is derived from the phenomenon of quantum entanglement, befitting of the direction the project has taken.

Cairns’ live ensemble underwent personnel changes to accommodate the new sound and includes John Larkin (vocals, guitar), Caley Conway (bass, vocals), Eli Smith (guitar), Eddie Chapman (synth, drum machine), Sam Pekarske (flute), and Joe Kirschling (drums). The band remains Larkin’s primary project coming into 2019 and has been active since 2015.
