WMSE pledge drive time is prime time for special events, performances, interviews and the like and Thursday nights mean listening to either the music stylings of WMSE DJ Jules or Radio Drill Time (featuring radio magickry by WMSE Station Manager Tom Crawford and local Bus Stop Label owner, Brian Kirk).
Tonight, Radio Drill Time brings us the man behind the 2010 wall calendar, Milwaukee’s Blank Generation, Stanley Ryan Jones. Jones, a literal tenant of Milwaukee’s club scene in the late 70′s/early 80′s, took snaps of local bands The Shivvers, Tense Experts and The Haskels as well as David Byrne, Lydia Lunch and Jim Carroll.
Portrait-style black and whites provide an intimate glimpse into what the Milwaukee scene was like in the environs of bygone clubs such as the Palms, the Starship and the Oriental Theater. Hear some history from Jones, himself, as he sits in for an interview with Radio Drill Time, tonight, and speaks about being both part of the audience and a photographer of a scene that was brimming with bohemian and punk attitudes on Milwaukee’s East Side, downtown and Riverwest neighborhoods in the not-too-distant past.
Radio Drill Time airs tonight on 91.7 FM, WMSE from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
