Hip Hop Hooray for WMSE’s Holiday Programming

WMSE’s specialty programs are a great testament to our DJs’ great personal record collections and to their creative minds: Dori’s ‘W’, ‘M’, ‘S’, ‘E’ shows, Shopkeeper Ken’s ‘back to school’ themed show, Radio Drill Time’s audio collections of  Scottish pop and Alien Andre’s alphabetized programs are all well-thought out and fun ways to absorb both new and old tunes, alike.

The mothers of all specialty programs usually revolve around holidays where WMSE DJs  zero in on Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween and what-have-you, to host themed shows, and the present season is one that a few DJs in particular have honed their shows to be a veritable bright and shiny bauble of holiday tunes. This year is no different, as WMSE welcomes new holiday music into the library such as local tunes by canyonsofstatic and David H.B. Drakeand national greats such as Ray Charles’ latest collection The Spirit of Christmas and  Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s Have Yourself a Meaty Little Christmas.

This week (and a bit beyond) the DJs grab their holiday collections from home and from the WMSE library and give a gift to the WMSE listening audience of specialized programming. According to Station Manager Tom Crawford, this is the lineup:

Paul Host Xmas Eve 12 noon -9PM: the greatest holiday Music show on planet Earth

Buzz Xmas Day 12-3PM: punk rock xmas in Buzz’s Garage  with mulled wine and apple spider, I mean cider

TC Blues Xmas Day 3PM-6PM: holidays blues …literally

Tune into these shows and others throughout the week to catch some of the most unique holiday music you’ll hear on your radio — blues, reggae, rock, country, world, pop and more are just a few genres! Everyone likes the classics, but here’s where to hear new takes and spins on some of your favorites. 91.7 FM on your radio dial or stream online at WMSE.org.  Happy holidays to all our listeners from WMSE Radio!
