After a few stop-start lineup changes, the official standing of Ian Olvera and the Sleepwalkers is set and the Green Bay-by-Oshkosh-by-Milwaukee band is ready to tour behind their solid Milwaukee-created recordings, planned to be released later this year.
The trio of Ian Olvera on guitars and vocals, Connor Lamue on bass and vocals and Nikolas Davidson on drums (with the ocassional addition of Matthew O’Grady on guitars and vocals) take their own spin on modern twang-pop, honing in on the big-hearted Midwestern sounds of the Replacements and Bruce Springsteen while adding their own brand of Milwaukee smudge’n shine, much like like-minded local bands such as Beach Patrol, Trapper Schoepp and the Shades and the Midwest Beat. Ian Olvera and the Sleepwalkers bring a youthful energy and charm to a path already carved out by legends such as Springsteen and even Tom Petty.
The band’s forthcoming material, recorded at Howl Street Studios, is slated for release by summer’s end, and in preparation they’re setting off on a string of shows in Milwaukee, Neenah and Appleton this month, next and beyond. Catch Ian Olvera and the Sleepwalkers before they head out for their summer music adventures, live on the airwaves of WMSE for tonight’s Local/Live at 8 p.m. Tune in at 91.7 FM on your radio dial or at WMSE.org.
