Saalik A. Ziyad’s singing career began at age seven when he was accepted as a member of the Chicago Children’s Choir. Under the choir’s tutelage he performed with Willie Pickens, Charlie Haden, Amina Claudine Myers, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and toured extensively in the United States, Poland, Russia and South Africa. Saalik’s music studies with the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians’ (AACM) School of Music began at the age of eight, studying with Edward Wilkerson, Ernest Dawkins, Mwata Bowden, Vandy Harris, Ann Ward, and many other members of the AACM faculty. Saalik A. Ziyad is the founder of “The 5 after 7 Project,” a music collaborative that continues his vocal explorations in a wide variety of performance and educational settings.
Tim Seisser has been a regular part of Saalik Ziyad’s working ensemble The 5 after 7 Project and has rapidly become one of the most sought after bass players in the Chicago area. Playing both electric and upright bass, he has performed with many of Chicago’s finest jazz musicians including Rob Parton, Joan Hickey, Eric Schneider, Allison Ruble, Fred Jackson, Yves Francois, Frank Catalano, and many more. He has studied with Victor Wooten, Steve Bailey, Jeff Berlin, Chuck Rainey, Adam Nitti and Jon Paul.
