Dinosaur Jr.’s New Era of Rock

Dinosaur Jr. may have banded together well over two decades ago, but their latest release, Farm, has proven that nothing has shaken loose over that course, despite band mate flip-flops and a brief hiatus in the late 90′s/early 00′s.

One of the first bands to make it big in the burgeoning indie alternative scene in the 80′s and 90′s with songs like “Freak Scene” and ”Feel the Pain”, the trio has had lasting power with its sheer catchiness. J. Mascis’s huge guitar riffs, loaded with distortion and bright tones, grabbed onto the ears of those music fans eager to hear anything muddy and grunge-y,  but still appreciated riding the waves of the outgoing power pop scene.

Currently, Dinosaur Jr. is back with all original members (Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph) and are finding that they have everything to gain by not changing up their sound.Farm fits in seamlessly with past releases like Bug and Without a Sound, and surely, the trio of veteran alt rockers are riding high on the energy of writing together again: seeing the band perform live will most-likely contain the same re-energized feel.

Veteran fans will get to literally slip back to the 90′s with Dino Jr. on Thursday at Turner Hall Ballroom,  just as Sonic Youth allowed with their recent performance this past summer, giving show-goers the same freshly-created nostalgia. Old is new again.

Dinosaur Jr. plays Turner Hall Ballroom this Thursday, November 19th. 8 p.m. All-ages.
