Dr. Dog performs tomorrow at Turner Hall alongside the Growlers. This tightly-knit group of friends often have had their music compared to the classic pop sounds of the sixties, and will have listeners turning off their collective minds and letting go. Their influences include the sunny pop harmonies of the  Beach Boys and also visit elements of the Beatles, Tom Waits, David Bowie and Neil Young.

Being a band that early on created their spirited albums locked away in seclusion of their Philadelphia studio,  Dr. Dog soon realized that they would need to leave these comforts to continue growing onwards and upwards. They found Rob Schnapf, who peeled back the intricacies of their album Fate to reveal the raw immediacy of the lyrics. With each release (Dr. Dog also has released a prior full-length and an EP) the band reveals more of their depth with their take on a classic sound, gaining further fans with their solid pop melodies and quirky lyrics. They’ve begun to develop a loyal following in their hometown of Philadelphia and otherwise, the energy of their live shows creating new, loyal fans along the way.

Dr. Dog has branched out to playing lengthy tours: this winter, they visit the Midwest and this Spring, they hit up the West coast as well as Europe. Catch Dr. Dog at the Turner Hall Ballroom (1034 N. 4th) at 8 p.m. tomorrow night (Thursday, February 4th). Dr. Dog will release a new album, Shame, Shame on April 6th, 2010.
