Vocokesh is a spinoff from another Milwaukee band, F/i and has been around since 1993; from that time, on, there have been few personal changes, including the tragic death of guitarist John Helwig in 2011. The current band lineup is founder, Richard Franecki on guitar, Tom Schnier on bass and Jim Gawelski on drums.
The group has released an EP and two CDs on Chicago’s Drag City label, three CDs on the Strange Attractors Audio House label out of Portland, and four LPs on the Pure Pop For Now People label in Frankfurt Germany. In addition, Krauted Mind Records in Germany has just issued a six-CD box set of unused/unreleased and live tracks. The band plays Milwaukee’s upcoming Psych Fest 2014 – find their music there or on WMSE to get a listen. Tune in this Tuesday for WMSE’s Local/Live — WMSE.org or 91.7 FM at the 6 o’clock hour.
