Local/Live

WMSE’s Local/Live is quite simply your weekly, curated connection to our local music scene. While we look forward to returning to our beloved, weekly studio sessions as soon as it’s safely possible, currently, Local/Live offers its listeners weekly, in-depth interviews to give a storied glimpse into the history, life-of and future projects of some of our notable, local artists. In addition, WMSE takes to The Ring in Walker’s Point each month for a livestreamed performance via Kneeverland Productions, offering listeners a fresh, dynamic way to take in the great performances they’re accustomed to hearing on Local/Live. Through multiple platforms: on the air, via WMSE’s website or on the station’s Facebook page and video channels (YouTube and Vimeo), Local/Live connects its local-loving listeners to the music and musicians they appreciate.

Every Tuesday since February of 2005, WMSE has welcomed a Milwaukee-area artist into the Bob and Genie Friedman Live Performance Studio to perform a full set live on the airwaves, made possible by WMSE’s amazing sound engineer Billy Cicerelli.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2013, WMSE updated the beloved program to give Local/Live more visibility and time to expand upon the mission of supporting Milwaukee-made music. With a full-hour, 6 – 7 p.m. time slot, the show grew into an even more in-depth showcase and conversation, hosted by WMSE Music Director, Erin Wolf, along with Milwaukee music writer and WMSE DJ, Cal Roach.

Wolf and Roach collaborate to book, curate, feature and converse with musicians, groups and bands primarily from the Milwaukee area (all from Wisconsin) with the intent to feature the new and up-and-coming alongside seasoned veterans. WMSE engineer Billy Cicerelli has been at the helm of each weekly band performance, giving each performing band the option of taking and using the recording of their live performance for WMSE’s Local/Live.
