Tonight on Local/Live: Cry Coyote

Twangy garage punk with plenty of swagger is what Milwaukee’s Cry Coyote is into dishing out, creating a smokily macabre environment that is more blasting and energetic than spooky music has a right to be. It works. Songs like “Behind Her” bring an edgy twist ala the Black Lips’ “Cold Hands” to their own dark lyrics and songcraft.  “Blood Red Eyes” and “Used and Chewed” underline the band’s cutthroat garage-punk ethos.

The Milwaukee group has had plenty of local experience playing festivals such as Bay View Bash, playing on boats such as the Iroquois alongside the Flips and Eva Grubb last summer and various venues and clubs. Tonight, the five-piece plays on WMSE’s Local/Live at 8 p.m. Tune in at 91.7 FM on your radio dial or listen online at WMSE.org.
