Straightforward pop-rock is in the musical blood of Milwaukee’s So So Radio, who capably bring sincerity to their lyrics written around chiming guitars, ambling drums and rolling organs; simple but powerful songs with a Eef Barzelay (ClemSnide) frame of mind in terms of underdog championing and a bare bones in construction, but full in sound, pop layout. Wistfully-slid guitar chords and harmonica add an extra oomph of earnestness to the band’s songs that were handpicked to appear on television (Scrubs) and be a winning choice to prelude the iconic pop-punk band the Smoking Popes at Turner Hall (Friday, May 7). No stranger to the radio (So So Radio appeared recently on 89.7 WUWM), the band makes a return trip to the airwaves to perform live on 91.7 FM WMSE’s Local/Live tonight at 8 p.m. Tune in at 8 p.m. on your radio or stream online (or archived) at WMSE.org. Look for the perfomance tracks to be posted later this week on Sonic Diet’s Local/Live page!
