Tonight On Local/Live: Surgeons in Heat

Surgeons in Heat are Milwaukee’s newest rockers vying for attention in a saturated scene, and, they should likely get it, playing show after show, sharpening their stage presence and gaining new fans with each performance. The trio of Ryan Rougeux, Johnathon Mayer and William Schultz have a bunch of shows lined up and don’t plan on stopping, already having recorded three songs with enough Americana rock scuzz versus clean to please fans of both dark and brooding post-rock and pretty, spaced out power pop (“I Wanna Get Up” offers up the dark and brooding, while “Storms Are Passing Over” offers up the pretty). Vocalist/guitarist Mayer hits the high range of his vocals with enough soul on “Can’t Do No Right” to make Surgeons in Heat’s sound a bit of a variable where the constant is that it all sounds solid. Catch the band, live, tonight on WMSE’s Local/Live segment at 8 p.m. tonight as they prepare for a show this Thursday at the Sugar Maple (441 E. Lincoln). Tune in at 91.7 FM on your radio dial or online, live or archived, at WMSE.org.
