Every Tuesday, WMSE presents Local/Live at 8 p.m. The newest in local music, from across the genre spectrum, is performed live over the airwaves and engineered by WMSE’s very own Billy Cicerelli. Tonight is a venture into two-minute rock blasts with wry lyrics, compliments of Milwaukee’s White Problems.
“The idea here is that the band is funny, so when people laught it’s not necessarily a bad thing,” the band states on their MySpace page, which very well explains their influences of “Target, the food court, [and] Belle and Sebastian” and their love for song subjects such as “Ruined Lunch on a Day at the Beach”. White Problems’ live performances are always high-energy even with the stripped-down instrumentation: Chuck Engel plays drums, Brian Whitney plays bass and vocalist Brian Rogers has often drawn comparisons to David Yow of Jesus Lizard fame.
Would Yow sing about his problems with Netflix? Probably not, but White Problems will and do. Tune in at 8 p.m. to 91.7 FM, WMSE or online at WMSE.org. The band gets set to play at the Cactus Club Saturday, March 6th.
