WMSE listeners just might already be familiar with Milwaukee’s the Directionals, who played our Local/Live program last November. At the time of their studio time here at WMSE, the trio was gearing up to release their next album, Omni and they previewed that with a little extra boost in January from their video for the single, “Never What It Seems”.
Omni is a nine-track, prog-y, energetic rock-based wave of twists and turns of psych and surf fueled by a lively and intricate percussion kick. The Directionals grab varying elements of modern math and pummel that into tried and true foundations of scuzzy and psyched up rock from the 60s and 70s; a sound that is not only true to the band’s name, but fun to listen to.
